Apple had a Mac Pro with the Apple M1 silicon chip ready to ship and launch to customers “months ago”, but ultimately decided to wait for the “Mac Pro” “M2 Extreme” later this year, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed.
In an interview with YouTuber Max Tech, Gurman said that Apple likely waited for the M1 Mac Pro to wait for the higher-end, more powerful version with the “M2 Extreme” chipset that will launch later this year. Gurman predicts that a preview of the high-end Apple silicon Mac Pro will take place later this year with an early 2023 launch. Gurman notes that Apple originally planned to announce the Mac Pro at this year’s WWDC , but these plans obviously did not come to fruition.
In the interview, Gurman also said he didn’t expect the Mac mini, which previous rumors might get a facelift, to be redesigned. Gurman points out the similarities between the Mac mini and the Mac Studio, saying that a refreshed Mac mini will simply be an improvement in the specifications of the M2 chip.
