A new line of iPhones is on the way soon, and the leaks and rumors so far have been pretty compelling, at least when it comes to the two high-end models. On the other hand, the two low-end phones (iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max) seem to have only minor upgrades. However, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max seem like a huge step up from their current counterparts. And the latest leak has us more excited than ever. (Don’t feel like waiting? According to supply chain sources cited in Digitimes, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will both feature 6GB of RAM using a faster type of memory called LPDDR5. Add to that the previous rumor that they will sport the A16 Bionic processor – a big improvement over the A15 from the iPhone 13 series – and we can expect vastly improved performance in these two phones, which are launching widely. scheduled for mid-September.
In practical terms, that means apps should load faster, games should run smoother and more responsive… pretty much everything should be faster and easier, basically. However, we don’t expect the same bump from the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, which will also have 6GB of RAM but with the slower LPDDR4X memory type and the same A15 processor as the iPhone 13.

This discrepancy between the base iPhone 14 models and the premium models mirrors other leaks and rumors we’ve heard to date, from Jon Prosser, Ming Chi Kuo and Ross Young. For example, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max are expected to have bigger camera bumps thanks to a new 48MP sensor, which will capture far more detail than the 13 Pro’s 12MP sensor. These models (but not the two cheapest) should also get an always-on display.
Also, as you’d expect, high-end phones are supposed to have bigger screens. Leaks suggest they’ll be 6.7-inches in diameter, with a 1284 x 2778 resolution, compared to a 6.1-inch, 1170 x 2532 display in the two cheaper models. We’re also expecting a 120Hz refresh rate on the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models, but a 60Hz refresh rate on the 14 and 14 Max.
As always, we must point out that this is all unofficial and has not yet been confirmed by Apple. Still, the picture that seems to be emerging is that upgrading to the new iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Max won’t make the biggest change in your life… but spending a bit more to get an iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max might. well rock your world.
