The arrival of Apple’s iPhone 14 isn’t that far off and while Apple likes to keep the schtum until launch day to reveal when the next series of phones actually go on sale, we can’t quite say it all. just don’t wait that long.
For the past eleven years, Apple has announced iPhones in the second half of every calendar year, and based on our speculative feature on when iPhone 14 launch day will be, we can apply similar logic to phones. date(s) of sale.
For context, this year we’re expecting four iPhone 14 models: the standard iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Most will know what to expect from three of these four models, based on the last two years of iPhones, but an iPhone with “Max” in its name without a “Pro” preceded by it hasn’t been seen since. iPhone Xs Max from 2018.
In this case, the iPhone 14 Max should marry the base hardware, camera, and feature set of the standard 6.1-inch iPhone 14, while sporting the larger 6.7-inch screen. which we expect on the iPhone 14 Pro Max (and almost certainly a bigger battery too).
When we suspect the iPhone 14 will go on sale
Using the same logic as with the iPhone 14’s projected launch date, we can look to each previous on-sale date of the past eleven iPhone generations to determine when the next four models should go on sale. .
There are obvious caveats to the noticeable trend Apple has created, with entries like the iPhone SE models as well as a few outliers like the iPhone XR, however, even they still offer some compliance.

Like the highlights above (and even if you include the last two iPhone SE models), iPhones still launch on a Friday.
Even considering the years where we’ve seen staggered commercial releases (i.e. with iPhone X, iPhone XR, and iPhone 12 Mini / iPhone 12 Pro Max), the first models of each generation usually arrive on the market on the Friday of the week following their announcement, or nine to ten days later.
As such, with our scheduled iPhone 14 launch date of Tuesday September 13th, we’d be putting our money on the range going on sale the following week, which would be Friday, September 23, 2022.
So this is it. While it’s possible the iPhone 14 series will follow the path of the iPhone 12 lineup and see a split between the different models’ on-sale dates – either staggered due to supply chain issues or imposed by Apple on the light of the unknown quantity that is the iPhone 14 Max – you should be able to buy at least one member of the iPhone 14 series online and in stores from the third Friday of September this year.
